It has been reported that a small start-up company has found a dye and brain scan that can show the hallmark plaque building up in the brains of people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. The findings will be unveiled at the international Alzheimer’s Association meeting on July 11th.
As a Michigan elder law attorney that helps families who are caring for loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, this is important news.
The study must still be confirmed by the FDA, but if it holds up it could mean that this is the first time doctors and physicians would be able to reliably diagnose the presence of Alzheimer’s in patients who are suffering from memory problems.
Additionally, this opens up the road for researches to try to figure out ways to slow or halt the disease. According to Dr. Weiner this “will change everyone’s thinking about Alzheimer’s in a dramatic way.”
